Hello
My name is Dane and I am a Primary school Teacher.
Every day I see the enthusiasm and urgency the students in my class have for a defining moment they know is important.
When I mention it in class, you can hear a pin drop. The students can see it everywhere, many of them are using it to study or complete homework, but there is nothing in the syllabus yet to guide their understanding.
I started PrimaryAI as a way to help students and schools be empowered by the technology that was suddenly all around them, and to approach AI with confidence and understanding.
Three years ago, when AI was just arriving in classrooms and nobody was talking about what it meant for the primary years, I started PrimarAI to fill the gap. Since then I've built a seven-session NSW-syllabus-aligned AI literacy program, written a book, and run AI courses into Australian primary schools.
What three years in this work has clarified is that the gap was bigger than I thought. Incursions, frameworks and policy papers will not be enough. The structure of the school day itself needs to change. The manifesto is my case for what that looks like.
