Beyond the Hype and Getting Wise - culture peeks behind the curtain of AI

Last night we watched the latest episode of 'Morning Wars' on Apple, the 4th (or was it 7th?) series. To be honest, I feel the show is wilting a bit, the writing and direction a bit thin compared to amazing past series, but this isn't a review.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, the climax of the episode being when Stella Bak's career burns down to the ground in an epic fail in front of an olympic media event, while putting her faith in her AI second self on the big screen behind her.

She had (inadvertently...or was it) trained the AI the night before, asking it personal questions about her career and love life, which came back to haunt her via her AI self during the event.

One of the core themes...trust in AI? seems to be bubbling up through the culture at the moment.

I saw this ad while in the city today....'AI couldn't help us, but you can...'

Again, what do you trust, who do you trust? How can something that seems so powerful be managed?

This is happening all around the culture, and our kids are right in the centre of it. I think primary aged kids are seen as being somehow a bit sealed off from the world, until they turn 18 and the bubble is pricked and they venture forth.

I think this isn't fair on them, they see these ads, they see whats happening around them, as everyone knows, they soak up every last detail of their environment.

Thats why I started PrimarAI. I took a year 6 class and asked them if they had any training in AI, even any mention of AI while in school. That sea of blank faces switched on a light for me, I would help them face their future, fill the gap that will be so hard to fill for schools etc.

If you also want to help your children/class, contact PrimarAI...we have FREE AI for primary school sessions running beginning of December.

Help your kids get beyond the hype and get wise.
