China and the UAE made AI education compulsory from the 2025-26 school year.


New Zealand is heading for a compulsory AI learning area by 2027 and ran a national Day of AI in schools this year.


Alabama now requires AI instruction to graduate, one of 77 bills across 27 American states, and WA is spending $4.6 million putting its ClassmAIte tool into more than a hundred schools.


Meanwhile I went looking through the NSW Science and Technology syllabus arriving in 2027 for a mention of artificial intelligence, and couldn't find one. I


f I've missed it, correct me and I'll post the correction with your name on it. And look, a syllabus should be a slow instrument.


We don't rewrite curriculum every time a technology gets loud, and that caution has saved us from plenty of rubbish over the years.


But this is the document that governs what NSW kids learn about technology until the mid-2030s, and it's written for a world where the computer waits to be told what to do.
